Lincoln United v Bridlington Town
Lincoln United 2 – Bridlington Town 2
Bridlington Town were left to rue several missed chances in the first half and so failed to overtake their opponents, who were immediately above them in the league, as Lincoln came from behind twice to secure a point. The hosts included new signings goalkeeper Jack Steggles, who denied Town on several occasions, and defender Freddie Pitts. Jaz Goundry was effectively playing the last match of his loan deal for the Seasiders, but they hope to extend the loan for another month. After two appearances as a substitute, the other Grimsby Town loanee Luis Adlard made his full debut and crowned it with the opening goal after eighteen minutes.
Town held the lead for ten minutes before referee Luke Lazenby awarded the Whites a penalty, although Benn Lewis’s arm was tight to his side when the shot from outside the penalty area struck it. Lincoln skipper Matt Cotton made no mistake with the spot-kick. The visitors had replaced the injured Lewis Dennison with Flynn McNaughton midway through the half and it was the substitute that restored the lead within five minutes of the equaliser to give Town a deserved half-time lead.
Lincoln had a better second half, putting Bridlington under pressure and it was no surprise when Jack Wightwick capitalised on some slack defending to level the scores again. Town had to do some stout defensive work to keep Lincoln at bay as the pressure continued. Late in the half the Seasiders went in search of the winner and felt aggrieved when they had a penalty turned down following a blatant handball with the official claiming afterwards that he didn’t see the incident and the game finished all square.
